Registrations for undergraduate admissions under the four-year programme in Delhi University closed on Wednesday,with more than
2 lakh students applying for around 54,000 seats in 63 colleges.
According to university officials,"a record number" of forms 1,63,466 were sold over the counter this year. The total figure for applications submitted last year stood at around 1,70,000.
With 1,22,957 online submissions till 5 pm on Wednesday,the number of online registrations this year has seen a three-fold increase as compared to last year,university officials said. The online registration process had received a lukewarm response last year with only 43,300 students registering online.
Unlike the first few days,the number of applicants visiting the admission information centres in Delhi University fell considerably. Anticipating last day admission rush,the university administration had extended the time for submission of forms from till 4 pm on Wednesday
Everything was under control. Four counters had been opened at Arts Faculty and the time for submission of forms had also been extended to avoid any inconvenience to students. Moreover,the online registrations are open till midnight today (Wednesday)," Dean of Students' Welfare J M Khurana said.
The university decided to do away with centralised registration for SC/ST and PWD (persons with disability) students,the number of applicants under these categories have nearly doubled,officials said.
"The total number of SC/ST (applicants) has increased by more than 100 per cent. Last year,only 23,000 had enrolled themselves whereas this year already 47,484 SC/ST/PWD admission seekers have registered," Khurana said.
Radhika Chawla was among the 3,300 students who visited Arts Faculty in North Campus on the last day to submit her registration form.
"I had applied online,but I forgot to mark some courses on the form. So,I have come to the submit the OMR form today. I have applied for all courses Sanskrit,English,philosophy,economics,statistics and Hindi," she said.
With a 75 per cent in Class XII,she hopes to get a seat in Bachelor in Journalism and Mass Communication at Indraprastha College.
Applicants will now have to wait till June 27 when the first cut-off list will be announced. The colleges will decide their cut-offs on the basis of the registration details of students,sent to them by the university.
