As an Oxford graduate, humanitarian lawyer and adviser to the UN, Amal Alamuddin might seem an unlikely match for one of Hollywood's most eligible men.
But George Clooney has reportedly put a string of supermodels and actresses behind him and proposed to the British lawyer whose life is a world away from the glitz of celebrity life.
Miss Alamuddin, 36, has carved out an impressive career for herself as a high flying lawyer working out of London's Doughty Street Chambers.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon, and fluent in both French and Arabic, Miss Alamuddin studied at St Hugh's College at Oxford University before going to the New York University School of Law.
After graduating she passed the New York Bar in 2002 and the Bar of England and Wales (Inner Temple) in 2012.

Actor George Clooney is engaged to a British human rights lawyer who has represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former Ukraine prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, according to repAmal Alamuddin, 36, a London-based barrister, was born in Beirut and is fluent in French and Arabic. She has also worked as an adviser to former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, now joint special envoy of the UN and the Arab League on Syria, and a United Nations inquiry into the use of drones.
Clooney, 52, was married for four years to actress Talia Balsam until they broke up 1993 when he famously pledged never to marry again.
And last year he told Esquire magazine: "I haven't had aspirations in that way, ever. I was married in 1989. I wasn't very good at it. I was quoted as saying I'll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I've never talked about it since."
However E! news, citing two sources, reported that Ms Alamuddin was seen with a "massive" ring on her finger on Thursday at the Nobu restaurant in Malibu. At one point, actor Edward Norton approached the table and the couple told him they were engaged.
People magazine also quoted a source "with knowledge of the situation" as saying: "George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem.
"I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever."
Clooney's representative Stan Rosenfield declined to comment on the reports.
