ALLAHABAD: The city is all set to celebrate Janmashtami with a devotional fervour and this reflects in the brisk sale of items at local markets here on Saturday. Local manufacturers have put on sale innovative items, said to be complementing the traditional mode of worship by adding high-tech elements in it. For example, electrical fan, around 10-centimetre in height running on battery for airing new born Lord Krishna, colourful electrical lamps with shade so that new born do not gets disturbed by bright light in households. Variety of colouful frocks, bangles, decorative items among others.
                                      
All the items ranges from Rs 100 to 300. The colourful hand-stitched and embroidered clothes for new-born Lord Krishna ranges from Rs 150 to 250. The simple ones are available at Rs 20 to 50.

"Nowadays devotees want to celebrate Janmashtami festival in style by making tableau and decking up with flowers among other things. From this year we are offering them a wide range of items to choose from including electrical chargeable items," said Mohd Salim, a seller at Civil Lines area. He said items like fans, lamps, tiny lighting patterns and spray to give for artificial ice for Lord Shiva among others are on sale, added Mohd Salim. Asha Bannerjee a buyer said, "Many people avoid modern way of decking up the sanctum with artificial lights."
