Born Charles Robert Schwab, Jr. on July 29, 1937, in Sacramento, California. Even though he left the CEO position of his eponymous firm in 2008, he still serves as the chairman and the largest individual shareholder, with about a 15% share. Ever since he founded the company in a two-room office in 1971, he has witnessed its expansion especially after becoming the pioneer in the world of online investing. Today, his San Francisco-based firm numbers 19,000 employees and serves more than $1 trillion clients worldwide. At the age of 40, he found out that he is dyslexic, only later to learn that his son suffers from the same learning disorder as well. This led to the formation of The Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, which is providing grants to dyslexic children. As the name suggests, he set up the foundation together with his wife Helen, with whom he has five children. What's more, Schwab is a knight of the undergraduate college fraternity, Sigma Nu.
