The result of school secondary certificate (SSC) examination conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) was declared on Tuesday and a majority of city schools have scored above 90% while a few schools have achieved 100% result. In Thane district, a total of 89.75% students have passed under which Navi Mumbai city comes.
In Thane district, a total of 1,48,923 students appeared for the SSC examination out of which 70,592 are boys and 63,062 are girls. The number of students, who cleared the exam stands at 1,33,654 with pass percentage being 89.75. The pass percentage of girls being 91.73, they outclassed the boys whose pass percentage is recorded as 88.04. Subsequently, this year also the girls left the boys behind in pass percentage.
The overall performance of the Mumbai division was a little lower than last year. Out of 3,44,338 students, who appeared for the standard X exam, 30,5,912 passed with percentage being 88.84. Here also, the girls scored a point. 1,45,623 girls passed as against 1,60,289 boys with pass percentage standing at 91.08 and 86.90 respectively. Last year, 88.92% students passed the SSC examination.
The MSBSHSE conducted the SSC standard X exams 2014 from March 3 to March 27. The first exam was for the first language selected by the students while the last exam was for the second/third language opted by students.
Around 17 lakh students appeared for the MSBSHSE, SSC 2014 exams, an increase from 15 lakh students that appeared for SSC exams 2013. Students across the state appeared from a total of 21,000 schools with 3,812 centres in nine districts namely, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amaravati, Nasik, Latur and Konkan.
A majority of students passed in English as around 96.91% students cleared the paper, which was followed by mathematics with 95.52 % and Marathi with 95.17%.
This year, 801 schools in Mumbai division achieved 100% result while 2,218 schools have scored above 90% result. Mumbai division has conducted the maximum number of 60 subjects examination in different languages. This year, the board has also introduced a new subject ICT, which helped students to improve their grade.
