Minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh on Tuesday triggered a controversy after he pitched for a debate on BJP's stand demanding the repeal of Article 370 which guarantees special status for J&K.
Union minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah today said the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India will end if Article 370 is abolished.
"Article 370 has been in our agenda and BJP will take a decision over it when it comes to power in full strength on its own," Gadkari said.
"Those opposing abrogation of Article 370 should spell out how it has benefited Jammu and Kashmir. We believe it has not benefited the state," Rajnath Singh said.
"Modi's intention is that we have a debate so that we can convince the unconvinced about the disadvantages of Article 370," MoS in the PMO Jitendra Singh said.
Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday said no government at the Centre can revoke Article 370 and the special position of Jammu & Kashmir within the country is non-negotiable.
"Modi's intention is that we have a debate so that we can convince the unconvinced about the disadvantages of Article 370," MoS in the PMO Jitendra Singh said.
BJP's nominee for Srinagar-Budgam parliamentary constituency Arif Majid Pampori, alias Arif Raja, quit the race on Wednesday claiming he disagreed with the saffron party's manifesto which called for, among other things, abrogation of Article 370 that grants special status to Jammu & Kashmir
