Motorola's upcoming Moto E smartphone likely to be priced at Rs 8,500 in India
Rumours around the upcoming Moto E smartphone have intensified since Motorola sent out press invitations last week for its event on May 13. Internet is already abuzz with reports that Motorola's Moto E handset will come for under Rs 10,000, and now a recent lisiting on Zauba, an Indian website that keeps a track of goods imported to India, has added more weight to the rumoured pricing.
According to the listing on Zauba (reported by AndroidOS.in), 1300 units of the Moto E have already been imported to India at Rs 6,300 per unit. Having considered the prices at which the Moto G and Moto X were brought to the domestic market and the actual prices at which they went on sale, it can be reasoned out that the "priced for all" - as the company has mentioned in its media invites - smartphone, Moto E, will go on sale at or under Rs 8,500 (including local taxes).
With Bangalore mentioned as the import city in the data, it is speculated that the Moto E will also be a Flipkart exclusive. Motorola has earlier made its two smartphones available in India exclusively via Bangalore-based online retailer Flipkart.
The Moto E is said to have a 4.3-inch screen and may include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP camera and 1,900mAh battery.
The Moto E is said to have a 4.3-inch screen and may include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP camera and 1,900mAh battery. The resolution of the screen is still uncertain, but the phone is rumoured to come with a 720p display.
Price is one of the reasons that has led to the success of the Moto G in India. And now with the budget-friendly Moto E smartphone, the company seems to be gearing up to repeat its success story - but this time in the sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone market. This segment is currently ruled by home-grown smartphone makers like Micromax, Lava and Karbonn.
The Moto E will be the first Motorola smartphone under the stewardship of Lenovo. Google early this year sold Motorola's smartphone business to Lenovo for $2.9 billion.
