National-level TT player Muskan Verma tops Class-12 PSEB exam
Table tennis national player Muskan Verma of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Fazilka, has topped Class 12 (non-medical) in the senior secondary school examination held by Punjab School Education Board in March.
She secured 448 marks out of 450 (99.56%). Daizy Garg of Spring Dales Public Senior Secondary School, Sangrur, bagged the second position in non-medical by securing 442 marks, while the third position went to Charu of GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Malout, who secured 441 marks in the non-medical stream.
In commerce group, Kavita Handa of HMV Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar City, topped the state and got fifth position in the merit list by securing 97.33%. In the humanities group, Ramandeep Kaur of GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Malout, topped the state by securing sixth position in the merit list by bagging 97.11%. In vocational group, Somjeet Singh of Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Nabha, topped the stream and figured at 18th place by securing 94.44%.

The board has given a benefit of 15 and 25 marks towinners/participants at the state and national levels in sports competitions, respectively.
While declaring the result at the PSEB office at SAS Nagar, education minister Sikander Singh Maluka said, "The overall pass percentage has gone up to 84.42% in comparison to the 78.97% of 2013 and 72.31% in 2012. For the first time, the results have been declared before time and this year there were minimum cases of cheating reported and we got the best results."
As usual, girls in the state have outshone boys by securing 89.82%, while the boys' percentage was 79.81%.
Of the total 359 students in the merit list, the maximum 108 are from Ludhiana district and the lowest two from Kapurthala, while there are three students each from SAS Nagar, Pathankot, Mansa, SBS Nagar and Ferozepur districts.
Students who figured in the merit list from other districts are: Amritsar-22, Bathinda-11, Barnala-5, Faridkot-14, Fatehgarh Sahib-7, Fazilka-25, Gurdaspur-9, Hoshiarpur-29, Jalandhar-19, Moga-12, Muktsar-36, Patiala-39, Rupnagar-8, Sangrur-19 and Tarn Taran-9.
As many as 10,617 students failed, while 34,547 students got compartment. As many as 2,99,057 students appeared as regular candidates and 2,52,471 were declared pass. The pass percentage of rural students is 83.9%, while that of urban students is 85%. The pass percentage of government schools is 84%, of aided schools is 81% and of affiliated/associated schools is 84.79%. Even the pass percentage of Adarsh schools has gone up to 88.42%.
Of 389 students figuring in the merit list, 256 are from science group, 51 from humanities, 79 from commerce and three from vocational group.
Detailed results
Students can find detailed results on the websites www.pseb.ac.in and www.indiaresults.com using school code or student roll number on Monday after 8am. The mark sheets for Class 12 will be sent within a week. Students can apply for re-checking with 10 days from the day of result declaration. Re-checking form and fee will be submitted at the PSEB office in SAS Nagar. Forms are available on the board's website. Those having a compartment in March 2014 will have to submit their forms by May 30.
